About LAAD – Lafayette Athletic Association of the Deaf

Founded in 1971, the Lafayette Athletic Association of the Deaf (LAAD) has proudly served the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in Lafayette, Louisiana, and beyond for more than five decades. Established by passionate community members who wanted to create a safe, welcoming space,

 

LAAD has grown into a cornerstone for Deaf culture, sports, and social connection in Acadiana.

Incorporated as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, LAAD is dedicated to promoting athletic, educational, and social opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals and their families. Over the years, the organization has hosted countless events — from softball tournaments and social gatherings to cultural celebrations — fostering unity, advocacy, and pride within the Deaf community.

Through partnerships, outreach, and a strong volunteer network, LAAD continues to create programs that empower individuals, strengthen community ties, and preserve Deaf culture and American Sign Language (ASL) in the region. Whether it’s on the field, at a community event, or online, LAAD remains committed to building connections, celebrating diversity, and supporting future generations.
